Lady GaGa “Paparazzi” Official Video and Rating!
Lady GaGa and her new song “Paparazzi” is finally out on video its in the “strange but very good” category, controversial in places and is being classed as an X rated pop video by a lot of the media, we’re not too sure about that one, but it is a bit on the steamy side non the less and does contain some violence.
She’s currently on tour in Australia causing total chaos over there whilst her video goes on official release over here.
The video is directed by Jonas Akerlund who worked on the Prodigy’s Smack My Bitch Up and is in a 7 minute mini film/movie format with the actual song not appearing until well over 2 minutes in. Its all about fame and the deeper aspects of it, comes from the album of the same name and hence the album title. Is this her bid to become an actress? Who knows!
She is billed to be in the UK later this year to perform at Glastonbury and also to support Take That.
The Verdict:
Interesting video and thats putting it mildly, its a boundary pusher very arty with dashes of violence and passion all filmed in the shaky amateur grainy sort of effect. You just get the feeling they may have had to cut a lot of the scenes in this video for example her landing after being thrown of the balcony! Very similar to the recent Pink video in that respect. All in all the video is very good but what about the song which is what we rate.
This is a bit different from her other two offerings which are more in the clubby style, this is slightly more off beat tragi love ballad if you can call it that. It’s a softer more subdued sound with an indie sort of base line, and a softer more girly sounding Lady GaGa proving vocally she can do soft as well as relentless power line singing. Top marks for originality with the song and more so for the video.
Just not doing it enough for us to be a 3 and half stars rating but better than a 3 star song. Rating 3 stars +++++ and firmly over neutral. Video by the way 4 stars as it is incredibly different and very good and highly creative but does not change the final rating.
Chart wise, can’t see why this shouldn’t be No1, its catchy, controversial, she is buzzing media wise at the moment, has an accelerating fan base, it really just depends who else is out there in the charts at the time!
