Jaicko Lawrence: Barbados singer
Jaicko Lawrence is the next big thing coming out of Barbados, that was put on the map since the success of pop star sensation Rihanna Fenty. Read more about Jaicko here.
Meet Jaicko Lawrence. He was born in Christ Church, Barbados on August 6th, 1991, making him to be eighteen years of age. Ever since Jaicko was a young child he had a passion for music. Growing up in a musical family, there was no doubt in his mind that music was going to be a big part of his life. Lawrence’s father was already a popular musician and being exposed to his father’s craft at a young age inspired him to follow suit.
Jaicko has already established a fan base for himself in his native Barbados. Because of his curly afro that he grew out during his schooling, Jaicko found himself into a bit of trouble with the educators. Due to the strict public educational system in Barbados, he had to choose between his hair or leave the school. With his hair being a part of who he is a musical artist, there was no way he was going to cut off his locks. Instead, he traded in public school for home school in order to keep his hair and pursue his musical dreams.
Jaicko has graced the covers of many magazines and newspapers in Barbados and sold 6,000 records of his debut independently represented rap album in his country. While 6,000 records may not seem like a lot, considering the population of 300,000 people and the fact that purchasing albums is not a huge practice in his country, Jaicko has local support. In addition to album sales, he was also nominated for six Barbados Music Awards, including Best Pop Single, Pop/R&B Artist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, and Album of the Year in 2008.
While Jaicko has already experienced success in his native Barbados, he is working on achieving superstar status in the United States. And, he is well on his way. Since being signed onto Capital Records, Jaicko has been working hard on putting the final touches on his debut album and is ready to make his mark on the music industry.
Expect to hear and see more of Jaicko Lawrence in the near future as his debut album titled Can I is set to release in the summer of 2010.
