The Verdict:
Looking with critical eyes this film has moderate acting, some sort of plot even if a bit far fetched, reasonable star line up but with a strong dash of CGI special effects, limited dialogue, and reliance on too many action sequences to bolster the proceedings all leading to an “eye candy” style film which in critical circles is a definite thumbs down and a lot of critical throwing of popcorn at the screen. All leading to a rating in the region of 2-2.5 stars possibly lower.
Thats with a critical eye, looking at the film as a serious hardcore fan of this series of films and as a cinema goer, this film does look to be pretty good. Helena Bonham Carter as the baddie, Bryce Dallas Howard as the love interest, Christian Bale as John Connor the lead role, there’s some mixed calibre here but calibre all the same. Its sci fi but not in the Trekky vane or even in the Transformers mould which are not our thing here, its a slightly grittier and gloomier and slightly more believable Sci Fi style film with that futuristic horror theme playing very convincingly on everybodies nightmare scenario.
Terminator 1 was very good, Terminator 2 was even better although purists would disagree and Terminator 3 was a sharp step backward with an almost TV Movie feel about it, but still surprisingly watchable all the same thanks to its shorter time frame than the original 2 blockbuster offerings and the menacing female terminator who we have to say was very good. This Terminator 4 looks to bring the film franchise back on track but Terminator 1 and 2 are too hard to beat, they’ve accepted this, but it has a very good stab at trying to get there all the same.
As ridiculous as the theme of this film may seem, when you think that little bit harder it does have a chilling realism to it and cannot be entirely ruled out!
Critics will be marking this film down, we’ll be surprised if they don’t, but we like the look of this one and it gets a Rating of 3 and half stars out of 5. In Box Office terms this film should do well and in our previous feature article we have billed it as potentially causing box office mayhem. As it has the Terminator tag and there’s not many people who haven’t seen these films that haven’t said they are superb. Possible No1 ranking if not at least in the Top 5, we would be extremely surprised if it was otherwise.
The Red Carpet:
Brooke Burke
Kelly Osbourne new blonde look!
